The goal here was to create something memorable for any type of single guest, no matter their gender or age. Anyone can create a boring, hotel-style, guest-room. The objective was to avoid the go-to, safe mobilia that is usually reserved for guest rooms around the world. The room was later used for Airbnb and quickly won Superhost status. Details on country of origin, brands and designers can be shared with interested clients.
Single Guest Room
Here we have a glorious study room for anyone, but especially for a young adult. The goal was to have it be very colorful while remaining professional.
The main piece is the 1990s wall-mounted structure by Molteni with a fantastic blue color that gives light to the whole room. The work table that comes with the Molteni is also breathtaking and was made to slide right under the structure. Again, anyone can create a more adult and somber-looking study room like the ones you see in business or legal movies, but that was not the desired outcome for this particular space.
On the very top shelf are a series of 4 limited-edition pieces made by famous contemporary portuguese sculptor and painter Jose de Guimaraes that has a similar gigantic figure in Lisbon.
I paired the blue of the Molteni shelf with a similarly colored and professional Herman Miller chair, with a white back to give the room even more brightness. To the left-side is a bookshelf that is also part of the Molteni structure, where I chose to put a colorful collection of Babar, Yakari, Tintin and other comic books to match the colorfulness of the space.
The pouf located in the corner is a nice addition but an afterthought. From the Ralph Lauren Home store in Belgium, I placed it there because the dimensions were perfect for it to fit in that small space, although it could have been placed in any other room of this house without too much difficulty. It’s a good place to read or relax from a hard day’s work, while staying inside the study room. The pillows on top of the pouf (one cannot see clearly from these pictures), are quite unique and hard to find.
Study Room
As minimalist as they come, this room boasts a very expensive queen-sized Ralph Lauren Home bed from Belgium, with a fantastic mattress (the same brand as the one the UK Royal Family uses). It takes center stage in the room and is surrounded by the famous Tolomeo lamp designed by Italian firm Artemide, that I chose to place on the floor to the right because it is tall enough to sit on the floor, and on the other side a fantastic bedside table supporting a high-end desk lamp (Daphine) by Lumina, next to two beautiful leather frames for photos, and a collector’s “Batman” type decorative car (that could also be placed on an office table), and finally a mug from yet another brand I can share more details on with clients. To the side of the bed there is a beautiful beige straw basket to throw laundry clothes in. This type of straw baskets also go well in beach-houses in Comporta/Melides for example. Facing the bed could have been a vintage dark-brown console, but this time I chose to just have a beige “chauffeuse” chair. Covering it is a matching italian-made cashmere sheet and pillow with a light and understated grey color.
Room #1
A very complex living room that was made using pieces from various countries, mixing different styles and epochs. This is the living area that won me the 2023 interior decoration award. I can give more details to clients that are interested.
Living Room
This is some 3D example decoration of what can easily be done in a beach house. Style is very similar to mine. I have some not very well-known brands and designers to recommend for these types of properties as well.
